Brian Levin and his one-man”Center for the Study of Hate”

April 21, 2013

Brian Levin has just been taken to ‘school’ by, of all people, Bill Maher. Read, watch, listen, and enjoy the whole exchange here at NewsBusters.

Watching the Watchdogs

Earlier posts on this blog pointed out how groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center use public relations press releases to craft their public image and propagate their ideology. While the SPLC pays its PR guru a six-digit salary to keep the tens of millions of donor dollars coming in, not every “watchdog” group has such deep pockets.

Take the case of Brian Levin, a professor and self-described “Director” of the “Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism” at California State University at San Bernardino (CSU/SB). That’s an extremely impressive title, however, all signs indicate that Mr. Levin is the entire staff of the “Center for the Study of Hate.”

There just doesn’t seem to be anyone else there for the “Director” to direct.

A brief view of the evidence does little to dispel this impression:

One Response to “Brian Levin and his one-man”Center for the Study of Hate””

Thank you for re-blogging my post on Levin’s “Center for the Study of Hate.” As mentioned, Levin is really among the smallest of the “hate industry” fish, and for the most part, harmless.

Levin has turned out some very good work concerning a rash of attacks on homeless people in California and there is no indication that he is making any money off his efforts, unlike his mentors at the SPLC.

My real problem with Brian Levin is his “paper” center. It’s a classic front organization, just like Barry Mehler’s one-man “Institute for the Study of Academic Racism” (ISAR), at Ferris State University.

A FOIA request to both universities revealed that Levin’s “Center” received a few hundred to just over a thousand dollars from CSU/SB over the course of the past few years, which is nothing more than petty cash reimbursement. Mehler’s “institute” has never received a dime from FSU.

This isn’t rocket science. If an average guy like me can discover these one-man-bands with a handful of e-mails, imagine what a REAL media outlet could do with the facilities at their disposal.

Of course, that will never happen.
